The Board of Health for Public Health Sudbury & Districts welcomes Dr. Imran Adrian Khan, Public Health Physician
Issued: Monday, October 24, 2022The Board of Health for Public Health Sudbury & Districts is pleased to welcome Dr. Imran Adrian Khan on his first day as Public Health Physician. He will become the agency’s Associate Medical Officer of Health (AMOH) once the Minister of Health approves the appointment, made by the Board at their June 16, 2022, meeting.
“We are very pleased to welcome Dr. Khan and look forward to his many contributions in promoting and protecting health in the Sudbury and Manitoulin districts,” said René Lapierre, Chair, Board of Health. “As the Associate Medical Officer of Health, he will bring much expertise and additional physician capacity to Public Health’s team,” said Lapierre.
“Dr. Khan trained at NOSM University, and he is another example of how northern training benefits northerners and our local health system. He is no stranger to Public Health Sudbury & Districts, having completed many of his educational experiences with us. We are excited to officially welcome him aboard and know he will be a huge asset to our team and our programming, including engagement with area health care providers,” said Dr. Penny Sutcliffe, Public Health Sudbury & Districts Medical Officer of Health and Chief Executive Officer.
Dr. Khan will work under the direction of Dr. Penny Sutcliffe to achieve Public Health’s mandate and promote healthy communities. Once his appointment as Associate Medical Officer of Health is approved and per the Health Protection and Promotion Act, Dr. Khan will assist in the duties of the Medical Officer of Health and have the authority to exercise the powers of the Medical Officer of Health.
“Having completed my Public Health and Preventive Medicine specialty training in Northern Ontario, I am very happy to have the opportunity to stay here with my family and contribute to the Public Health team and the community,” said Dr. Imran Khan, Public Health Sudbury & Districts Associate Medical Officer of Health.
In addition to his Fellowship in Public Health and Preventive Medicine with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, Dr. Khan holds a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery, from the University of the West Indies, and has a Master of Public Health from the University of Waterloo.
