Sleep
This section examines individuals aged 12 years and over who met the daily recommended hours of sleep based on requirements for the age group. The Canadian Sleep Association recommendations the following hours of sleep by age group:
- 9–11 hours of sleep for those aged 12–13 years
- 8–10 hours of sleep for those aged 14–17 years
- 7–9 hours of sleep for those aged 18-64 years
- 7–8 hours of sleep for those aged 65+ years
Key findings:
- In 2015/16, survey results indicated that approximately 47% of individuals aged 12 years and over were getting less than the recommended number of sleep hours per day for their age group, while 51% met the recommended number of sleep hours per day for their age group in Sudbury and districts.
- The prevalence rate of individuals meeting the recommended number of sleep hours per day for their age group in Sudbury and districts is similar to northeastern Ontario and Ontario overall.
