Depression
This section examines self-reported depression symptoms for individuals aged 12 years and older using the Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9). It is a nine-item scale that calculates an overall score that can be classified into the following groups:
- 0 No depression
- 1–4 Minimal depression
- 5–9 Mild depression
- 10–14 Moderate depression
- 15–19 Moderately severe depression
- 20–27 Severe depression
The following analysis is specifically looking at “moderate-severe” depression(score 10–27 combined).
Key findings:
- In 2015/16, survey results indicated that 10% of individuals aged 12 years and older in Sudbury and districts suffered from moderate to severe depression symptoms.
- The prevalence rate of moderate to severe depression symptoms in Sudbury and districts is similar to northeastern Ontario but higher than that reported in Ontario overall.
