Alzheimer’s and dementia
The section examines the proportion of individuals aged 40 years and over who reported that they have Alzheimer’s or dementia. These are long-term health conditions that are expected to last or have already lasted 6 months or longer and that have been diagnosed by a health professional.
Key findings:
- In 2015/16, survey results indicated that 1% of individuals aged 40 years and older in northeastern Ontario had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s or dementia by a health care professional. The sample size was too small for Sudbury and districts estimate.
- The prevalence rate of Alzheimer’s or dementia in northeastern Ontario is similar to that reported in Ontario overall.
- Between 2007/08 and 2013/14, the prevalence rate of Alzheimer’s or dementia in northeastern Ontario has not varied significantly.
- Additional breakdowns for prevalence rate of Alzheimer’s or dementia in northeastern Ontario was not possible due to small sample sizes.
