The Demographic Profile: Short-form Census highlights information from the mandatory 2016 Census. The following are some of the highlights from the report.
- Public Health Sudbury & Districts covers a service area of 46,551 square kilometers, with a population of 196,448.
The health unit service area is made up of three census divisions:
- Sudbury District has a land area of 40,205 square kilometers and a population of 21,196.
- Greater Sudbury has a land area of 3,239 square kilometers and a population of 160,376.
- Manitoulin District has a land area of 3,107 square kilometers and a population of 13,048.

Males
- 0 to 19 age group: 21,200 (11%)
- 20-64 age group: 58,085 (30%)
- 65 and over age group: 17,290 (9%)
Females
- 0 to 19 age group, 20,120 (10%)
- 20-64 age group, 59,480 (30%)
- 65 and over age group: 17,290 (9%)
Did you know?
- A higher proportion of individuals identified French as their mother tongue in Sudbury and districts (24%) compared to the rest of the province (4%).
- Almost half (46%) of our population over the age of 15 across Sudbury and districts were legally married in 2016.
- Since 2011, our total population has grown by 0.9% (Greater Sudbury 0.8%, Sudbury District 1.7% and Manitoulin District 1.6%).
- Since 2011, our population has gotten older (15-19 age group decreased by 11.8%, 20-64 age group decreased by 0.8%, 65 and older age group increased by 17.0%).
- Among families with children in Sudbury and districts, 84.7% had at least one child aged 0 to 24 living at home.
- The percentage of people having children aged 25 or older living at home rose to 15%.
