Public Health Sudbury & Districts and the Capreol Nurse Practitioner-Led Clinic Partner to Offer More Opportunities for Routine Vaccination
Issued: Thursday, April 14, 2022Public Health Sudbury & Districts is pleased to announce a partnership initiative with the Capreol Nurse Practitioner-Led Clinic to increase routine vaccination opportunities for residents without a primary health care provider across Sudbury and the surrounding districts.
Beginning in May 2022, residents of all ages without primary health care providers will have access to routine publicly funded vaccines through the Capreol Nurse Practitioner-Led Clinic. Arrangements for appointments will be made by Public Health Sudbury & Districts through our regular vaccine booking practices. Individuals calling for vaccine appointments will be screened for eligibility for the initiative and will be provided with an appointment date and time. The Capreol Nurse Practitioner-Led Clinic is located at 49 Young Street in Capreol.
“We are offering this initiative to support those that may have had a difficult time accessing immunization services because of COVID-19,” says Megan Touchette, manager of the Vaccine Preventable Disease Program at Public Health Sudbury & Districts. “Missed opportunities for immunization can lead to increases in vaccine preventable diseases. It is more important than ever that individuals get caught up on the missed doses of all vaccines for which they are eligible,” Touchette emphasizes.
The partnership initiative enables residents of the community who are without a primary care provider to receive the routine and recommended vaccines for which they are eligible and would otherwise rely on public health or walk-in clinics to provide.
“The Capreol Nurse Practitioner-Led Clinic has partnered with Public Health Sudbury & Districts to provide the residents of our community with an opportunity to receive in-person assessment and administration of all the vaccines for which they are eligible,” says Amanda Rainville, Nurse Practitioner and Executive Director of the Capreol Clinic. “People without primary care providers face additional barriers to receiving routine vaccinations during the pandemic and we want to ensure that anyone seeking vaccination services is provided with all of the vaccines for which they are eligible to protect them from vaccine preventable diseases,” says Rainville.
The initiative focuses on providing all public funded vaccines that individuals are eligible for based on age and other health and other risk factors. Non-publicly funded vaccines will not be provided through the initiative such as those for travel or occupational requirements.
At this time, the anticipated end date of the initiative is unknown. For more information, or to book an appointment, please visit our website at phsd.ca or call Public Health Sudbury & Districts at 705.522.9200 (toll-free 1.866.522.9200).
