FOR IMMEDIATE ATTENTION
Market withdrawal of all COVID-19 XBB vaccines in Canada
Effective September 1, 2024, the Public Health Agency of Canada has issued a market withdrawal of all COVID-19 XBB vaccines in Canada. The decision to withdraw all XBB products is part of the regulatory process for approvals of the new formulations in preparation of the upcoming fall 2024 respiratory illness campaign.
If you have product on hand, please discontinue use and quarantine any remaining supply of XBB vaccines starting September 1, 2024 (even if the product has not expired). Please return your existing supply and update COVaxON in a timely manner.
If clients are seeking COVID-19 vaccination, please inform them that all individuals are advised to receive the new formulation as per the National Advisory Committee on Immunizations (NACI) and Ontario recommendation. The new formulation of the KP.2 vaccine dose is expected to start distribution in late September. We will provide more guidance at that time.
Please refer to the attached memo and appendices from the Chief Medical Officer of Health (CMOH), Public Health for further guidance:
