To community health care providers:

Please find a letter attached from the Minister of Health and Long-Term Care regarding vaccines for seniors during the 2018/19 influenza season.

This letter is in response to questions received regarding availability of the high-dose trivalent influenza vaccine and the use of quadrivalent influenza vaccine. Please note that immunization with both vaccines in the same season is not recommended. The ministry funds a single dose per season as per the current recommendations for one vaccine dose annually. The exception is for those between six months to less than nine years of age who are influenza vaccine naïve.

Please note, Public Health Ontario has recently posted some additional information to provide guidance for health care providers on their website related to influenza vaccination. Visit the following web page https://www.publichealthontario.ca/en/BrowseByTopic/InfectiousDiseases/Pages/IDLandingPages/Influenza.aspx to learn more.

For all reporting, inquiries or comments, please contact Public Health Sudbury & Districts at 705.522.9200, ext. 301.

Sincerely,

A. Zbar, MD, CCFP, MPH, MBA, FRCPC
Associate Medical Officer of Health and Director, Clinical Services
