Baby’s first dental visit
The Canadian Dental Association recommends that infants have their first oral check up by one year of age.
The first oral health visit is quite simple:
- Parents will learn to care for their child’s teeth.
- The dentist can identify and treat possible problems.
- Early visits will make it more normal for your child to visit the dental office.
Remember to keep the appointment positive and fun!
What can I do as a parent?
The best way to teach a child to care for their teeth is to lead by example. Parents play a key role in maintaining their child’s oral health. Young children are not able to clean their own teeth; therefore, parents should try to brush their child’s teeth as soon as they come in using a soft bristle toothbrush and do it with them as they get older.
Good oral hygiene starts from birth. Combined with the first dental visit by age one, parents can give their children the best start to good oral health.
