Location: Main Office – 1300 Paris St., Sudbury
Work Location Arrangement: Partial On-site – the position requires a combination of regular on-site and remote work. Reasons and schedules can vary, but worker attends on-site regularly (for example, each week).
Salary: $38.35 – $50.46 per hour (as per ONA collective agreement)
Position summary:
We are currently seeking a highly motivated health professional to contribute to our organizational mission of working with our communities to promote and protect health and prevent disease.
Reporting to Program Manager the Public Health Nurse is responsible for developing, implementing and evaluating Health Promotion programs within Public Health Sudbury & Districts. The incumbent will work cooperatively with agency staff, community partners, and individuals to provide the leadership and nursing expertise required for program planning, delivery and evaluation.
The assignment will be with the Mental Health and Substance Use Team, supporting the work around public mental health and substance use, including the community drug strategy. The work will have an emphasis on community coalition and capacity building, media relations and report writing.
Responsibilities:
- Provides input for the ongoing development of the division’s philosophy, goals, objectives and program/service activities, and the strategic plan.
- Represents the department, division, and program on community initiatives, committees and coalitions providing consultation and exchange of information.
- Supports programs to emphasize population health, and promotion of health and client engagement to meet the Ontario Public Health Standards, 2018, and local needs.
- Acts as a resource person to the organization and the community.
- Supports the essential duties of other public health nurses in their absence.
- In consultation with manager, works with fellow team members on policy advocacy to support political action initiatives within the framework of an approved agency plan.
- Reflects the agency’s mission, vision, values, philosophy, and strategic priorities in day-to-day work.
- Understands and incorporates the social determinants of health in programming.
- Works collaboratively as a multidisciplinary team member to meet established goals and objectives.
- Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills including effective problem solving, conflict resolution, negotiation, and mediation skills.
Requirements:
- Recognized Bachelor of Science in Nursing or Bachelor of Nursing Degree.
- Current certificate of competence with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
- Current CPR level C certification.
- Current training in the administration of naloxone.
- Minimum 3 years public health experience preferred. Recent experience (within the last 2 years) in health promotion.
- Recent experience with media relations.
- Experience leading community coalitions and supporting partnerships.
- Experience working in policy development.
- Satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check
- Maintains current Ontario driver’s license and has access to a reliable vehicle with agency required insurance in order to fulfill position requirements
- Advanced oral and written proficiency in English is required.
- Advanced oral and written proficiency in French is required.
- Ministry of Labour “Worker Health and Safety Awareness in 4 Steps” training certificate is required.
