Health professional resources
As a health professional, you can help your clients to quit smoking and vaping. It is very likely that your clients are already looking to you for guidance about their health, so you are in an optimal position to influence their behaviour. Brief contact interventions (BCI) is a quick intervention that allows you to identify who smokes or vapes and facilitates access to effective cessation interventions. It can be delivered in 3 simple steps: ASK, ADVISE, and ACT:
- ASK about smoking or vaping during every reasonable interaction.
- ADVISE that quitting is one of the best things they can do for their health.
- ACT by providing support or referring to other services. (PDF, 272 KB)
