What is ceftriaxone?
Ceftriaxone is used to treat an individual who:
- Has a confirmed case of gonorrhea.
- Is a sexual partner of someone with gonorrhea.
- Is suspected to have gonorrhea.
A single dose of Ceftriaxone is given by injection for the treatment of gonorrhea.
What are special instructions for ceftriaxone?
- Do not have sex until both you and your partner have received and completed the treatment. This includes oral sex. The treatment is not considered complete until seven days after receiving the injection.
What are the possible side effects of ceftriaxone?
- mild pain or tenderness at the site of injection
- dizziness
- headache
- diarrhea or stool changes
- rash
- temporary anemia or slightly lowered red blood cell count
