Water Safety
Be water safe, be water smart! Knowing how to be safe and smart in and around water can save lives.
Be prepared
- Wear a lifejacket or personal floatation device (PFD) when out on the water. It is a good idea for less experienced swimmers and young children to wear a PFD when near the water.
- Consider what safety equipment you need. Download the Boat Notes app and explore their information on boating safely.
- Actively supervise children when they are playing near or in the water. Keep them within arm’s reach.
- Swim with a friend or with someone nearby.
Know the rules
- In Canada, it’s against the law to operate a boat while impaired, whether by alcohol, cannabis, or other drugs.
- The law requires that there is an appropriately sized lifejacket or PFD on the boat for each person aboard.
