Are food handler training courses available through Public Health? Can I get trained to become a certified food handler?

Public Health Sudbury & Districts does not offer in-person food handler training or proctoring. We accept certificates issued by:

  • Any public health unit in Ontario including the “In Good Hands” course offered by the Thunder Bay District Health Unit. For more information about this course, the cost, or to register, visit In Good Hands.
  • Any program listed on the Ministry of Health website. Please note, some of the approved Ministry of Health providers only provide food handler training, not certification. In order to meet the regulatory requirement, certification is required.

For more information about approved training and certification providers or how to become a recognized provider, visit the Ontario Ministry of Health’s Food handler training and certification webpage.
