Drinking water advisory issued for the Town of Gore Bay for Sunday, July 21
Issued: Sunday, July 21, 2024The Town of Gore Bay is planning to shut down its water distribution system at approximately 8 p.m. on Sunday, July 21 for scheduled maintenance. Public Health Sudbury & Districts is issuing a drinking water advisory effective Sunday, July 21 at 8 p.m. for all residents of the Town of Gore Bay.
During the maintenance shutdown, water service will be interrupted due to a loss of pressure in the system. Once the Town of Gore Bay re-establishes the water supply, residents should NOT use the water for human consumption until Public Health Sudbury & Districts lifts the drinking water advisory.
“It is possible that the loss of water pressure will create conditions that compromise the safety of the drinking water,” said Jonathan Groulx, a manager in Public Health’s Health Protection Division. “Steps will be taken once pressure is restored to re-establish safety of the water. Until bacteriological testing of the drinking water validates that it is safe to consume, the drinking water advisory will remain in effect as a precaution,” said Groulx.
A drinking water advisory means that people who take their water from the municipal system should NOT use it for drinking; making juice, infant formula, or ice; cooking; washing uncooked fruit and vegetables; or brushing teeth. Boiling the water may not make it safe for drinking. Instead, water from an alternate source, such as bottled water, should be used. The water can be used for laundry and bathing; however, this is not recommended for small children who may swallow water.
According to the Town of Gore Bay, potable water will be available at the Water Treatment Plant, 119 Lighthouse Road. Residents will need to bring their own clean water containers.
Public Health will monitor the situation and notify the Township and residents when the drinking water advisory is lifted.
