First Nations Evacuation Centre (Motion #38-12)

Motion

WHEREAS First Nations communities face frequent evacuation as a result of natural events such as floods and forest fires; and

WHEREAS finding host communities for evacuees on short notice can present significant challenges; and

WHEREAS permanent and well-supported evacuation centres will greatly assist First Nation communities during these stressful situations;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Sudbury & District Board of Health support Thunder Bay District Board of Health Resolution 58-2012 and the request for permanent and adequately resourced evacuation centres that address the needs identified by First Nation leadership; and

FURTHER THAT copies of this motion be forwarded to the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, Ministry of Natural Resources, Ministry of Northern Development and Mines, Chief Medical Officer of Health, all Northern Ontario Boards of Health, and local members of provincial parliament.
