FOR IMMEDIATE ATTENTION: An Important Reminder about RotaTeq® Vaccine

RotaTeq® vaccine

As you are aware, RotaTeq® vaccine became available in Ontario in the fall of 2018 as part of a change in vaccine procurement in the province. RotaTeq® vaccine is offered in a three dose series and replaced Rotarix® which is offered in a two dose format.

Recently there have been reports of health care providers administering RotaTeq® using a two dose series. Note that this is not aligned with the required schedule and infants must receive all three doses of RotaTeq® vaccine for optimal protection.

Important reminders about RotaTeq®:

• It is a three dose series starting at 2 months of age (min. 6 weeks of age) with an interval of 4 to 10 weeks between doses.
• The first dose of vaccine should be given before 15 weeks of age.
• All doses should be completed before 32 weeks of age.
