Newborn care

Feeding your baby

Breastfeeding is normal. A woman’s body is made to feed their baby. The World Health Organization (WHO), Health Canada, the Dietitians of Canada and the Canadian Pediatric Society all agree that: Breastfeeding exclusively for the first six months, and sustained for up to two years or longer with appropriate complementary feeding – is important for the nutrition, immunologic protection, growth, and development of infants and toddlers.

Baby’s second night

You have made it through your first 24 hours as a new mother. Even if you have other children, you are still a new mother. There may be many emotions, new experiences that you and your baby are feeling.  You are not alone. Health Sciences North has created a resource that will help you understand your Baby’s Second Night.

Immunization

Starting at two months, your baby will require their first immunization. Visit your health care provider or our immunization (vaccination) clinic. Parents and guardians are responsible to report all immunizations to Public Health. Doctors do not report this information to Public Health Sudbury & Districts. You have several options to report your child’s vaccinations.
