Public Health Nurse -Temporary–Up to July 4, 2025, with possibility of extension Recruitment #25-103 (ONA)
Division: Health Promotion and VPD Division
Location: Main Office – 1300 Paris St., Sudbury
Work Location Arrangement: Partial On-site – the position requires a combination of regular on-site and remote work. Reasons and schedules can vary, but worker attends on-site regularly (for example, each week)
Salary: $38.35 – $50.46 per hour (as per ONA collective agreement)
Position summary:
We are currently seeking a highly motivated health professional to contribute to our organizational mission of working with our communities to promote and protect health and prevent disease.
Reporting to Program Manager the Public Health Nurse will be responsible for developing, implementing and evaluating Health Promotion programs within Public Health Sudbury & Districts. The incumbent will work cooperatively with agency staff, community partners, and individuals to provide the leadership and nursing expertise required for program planning, delivery and evaluation. The assignment is with the Healthy Families Team focusing on maternal/child mental health, growth and development, positive parenting, and resiliency.
Responsibilities:
- Represents the department, division and program on community initiatives committees and coalitions providing consultation and exchange of information.
- Provides input for the ongoing development of program policies and procedures at the health unit, division, program and team level.
- Supports programs to emphasize population health, and promotion of health and community engagement to meet the Ontario Public Health Standards, 2018, and local needs.
- Reflects the agency’s mission, vision, values, philosophy, and strategic priorities in day-to-day work.
- Understands and incorporates the social determinants of health in programming.
- Works collaboratively as a multidisciplinary team member to meet established goals and objectives.
- Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills including effective problem solving, conflict resolution, negotiation, and mediation skills.
- Focuses on building community relationships, networks and coalitions, and provides consultation specific to agency programs.
- Acts as a resource person to the organization and the community.
- Supports the essential duties of other public health nurses in their absence.
- Maintains documentation records according to the standards of the College of Nurses and provides reports.
- Contributes to the development of program plans and develops, plans, implements, coordinates and evaluates assigned projects in consultation with the manager and other team members as required.
- Participates in the orientation of staff, students, and others as may be required for the position.
Requirements:
- Baccalaureate degree in Nursing from an accredited university or college.
- Registered Nurse in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
- Minimum of one-year full time equivalent experience (within the last three years) in the area of family health, or maternal/child health.
- Minimum of one-year full time equivalent experience (within the last five years) in group instruction, external committee work or community engagement.
- Training in resiliency, prenatal and maternal/child mental health and positive parenting.
- Strong report writing and data interpretation skills.
- Knowledge and experience in media relations.
- Knowledge and experience in social media campaigns.
- Proficiency in both official languages is required.
- Current Ontario driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.
- Satisfactory Police Records Check (Vulnerable Sector) is a condition of employment.
- Ministry of Labour “Worker Health and Safety Awareness in 4 Steps” training certificate is required.
