Public Health Sudbury & Districts (Public Health) is a progressive public health agency committed to improving health and reducing social inequities in health through evidence-informed practice. With a head office in Greater Sudbury and five offices throughout Greater Sudbury and the districts of Sudbury and Manitoulin, Public Health has over 250 staff who deliver provincially legislated public health programs and services. The agency works locally with individuals, families, the community and partner agencies to promote and protect health and to prevent disease. Public Health is governed by an autonomous Board of Health and has strong community and inter-agency partnerships, for example, with the Northern Ontario School of Medicine and Laurentian University. Public Health has an enriched public health practice environment that fosters research, ongoing education, and the development of innovative programs and services.

Reporting to the Medical Officer of Health, the successful candidate will be an outstanding public health medical professional with a passion for creating healthy communities and a commitment to a community-centred approach to health equity and evidence-based practice. As Associate Medical Officer of Health you will provide public health physician expertise to specific public health portfolios as assigned as well as contribute to overall agency leadership, including fostering a diverse and respectful work environment, reflecting Public Health’s values of trust, respect, and humility. Additionally, you will support the Medical Officer of Health’s executive leadership of the agency, including providing coverage during absences of the Medical Officer of Health. You will join a dynamic leadership team and staff dedicated to achieving the agency’s vision: Working with local communities to promote and protect health and to prevent disease for everyone.

The successful applicant must be licensed to practise medicine by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario and have post-graduate training in public health at a master’s level. A Fellowship in Public Health and Preventive Medicine from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or equivalent is preferred. The successful applicant will also have a proven track record of working collaboratively with other health disciplines and community-based service providers.

The position is classified as partial on-site and involves a combination of regular on-site work and the opportunity for remote work. Reasons and schedules can vary, but regular on-site presence is required.

This posting is for a part-time permanent position up to a 0.6 FTE.
