Cannabis trends in your community

In 2021, in Public Health Sudbury & Districts, the age-standardized rate of emergency department (ED) visits for all cannabis related harms was 191.3 per 100 000 populationcompared to the provincial rate of 121.9 per 100 000 population¹.

In 2019, in Sudbury & Districts²:

45.7% of adults aged 16 years or older reported to have ever used cannabis (including both recreational and medicinal cannabis).
20.6% of adults aged 16 years or older have used cannabis in the past year.
Of the adults aged 16 years or older who reported having used cannabis in the past year, 27.6% reported using cannabis daily (or about everyday).
The most popular method of cannabis consumption among adults aged 16 years or older is smoking it in a joint (36.9%), using it in an oil such as drops or tablets (18.5%), using a pipe, bong, or waterpipe (17.9%), and by eating in foods such as brownies or candy (16.6%).
The most common reason for using cannabis is for recreational purposes (40.8%), followed by medical purposes (33.4%), and finally both medical and recreational purposes (25.8%).
